Tending to the roots of a sick plant heals it. You can't just paint its leaves green.

My most important task is showing you I'm genuinely invested in you getting better and I fully accept you as you are. When you feel that to be true, then you can really trust me and we can do really good work. I do this by trusting you to accept me - because in therapy I am real and myself. This has to happen at it's own pace, but it's the bedrock of successful therapy.Imagine how relieving and healing it would be to let it all go, take off the mask, and just be yourself. What would you tell me if you knew I wouldn't judge you? What will you be willing to change knowing you really trusted me to be there with you along the way? When this happens we might learn some new techniques, discuss philosophy, learn to change your relationship to yourself, nurture what electrifies you, etc. I will know how to treat you because you’ll feel safe enough to let my expertise guide you. With time and practice, this collaborative caring process becomes routine. Then you'll take the routine on with you into the rest of your life and thrive. I know if you are looking for meaning, belonging, and security in your life that I can help.

About Me

My Approach

For treatment specific questions, please reach out to me for a free consultation.I find what helps the most at first usually involves changing the way someone relates to what is hurting them. This may include some combination of radical acceptance, growing nonjudgmental and curious awareness, inner compassion, better understanding the past, and understanding the science behind how our body interacts with our minds. While this is very over simplified, it is a potent combination that can be tailored to each individual. We hurt where we care. Difficult internal experiences, although hurtful, are there to guide us to a life of meaning, belonging, and security. To be frightened of, ashamed of, or to yell at yourself about your ills makes living the life we hope for nearly impossible.I believe firmly you are fundamentally good and doing your best. Sometimes we and/or the world can be so hard on us it feels like we can do nothing right and we belong at the bottom of a well. To change that, I want to know who you are when you are not believing there is anything fundamentally wrong with you. What makes you feel most alive? Once we know this, we know which direction to get you walking. While, there is much we can and need to change within, I think that it is crucial to understand and wrestle with the immense impact of external systems—economic, political, cultural—in our lives. It is liberating and empowering to clearly see that what ails us is often not our fault and not asked for.
